Interview with Super-Featherweight Jason Litzau

Corey Erdman had a chance to talk to Jason Litzau earlier this evening.  The super-featherweight from Minnesota, takes on Celestino Caballero this Saturday on HBO.  Click on the player at the bottom for the full audio.

On preparing for a unique fighter like Celestino Caballero?

"My sparring partners are unbelievable.  They're way bigger.  I think Caballero is going to be little compared to some of my sparring partners.  They're 6'1", 147 pounders."

On what we can expect from him on Saturday night...

"You guys are going to see a Jason Litzau like you've never seen before.  I've got a new strength and conditioning coach.  My trainer has come up with a great game plan.  All I can tell you is this will be the best fight of my life.  We've got 10 different game plans.  Whatever he brings to the table, we are going to be there ready to respond.

On working with the new strength and conditionining coach...

I'm stronger.  I'm faster.  I'm making weight easier.... The way Manny Pacquiao's strength and condition coach has changed his career.  This guy is changing my whole career.

On his past losses...

I haven't got any excuses.  I give my all in every fight, and that's all there is to it.  Robert Guerrero beat me.  Jose Hernandez beat me.  That's it... They beat me.  But come November 27, I'm fighting Caballero and I'm going to be at 110% and it's going to be the best Jason Litzau you've seen.  That's all I can tell you.

Any response to Caballero's trash-talk...

Talking doesn't win fights.  He can talk all he wants.  We're fighting.  We're not going to be talking.

love the response to Caballero's trash talk...

I hated every minute of training, but I said, ‘’Don’t quit. Suffer now and live the rest of your life as a champion.'’ (Bernard Hopkins)

Litzau did the job.

As for Caballero, it’s remarkable that he could show up in the worst shape of his career for his second HBO date. Unless this was some crazy move to tempt Lopez or Gamboa into signing.
