Carl Froch vs Arthur Abraham Predictions

Photo

In just a few hours, Super Six sluggers Carl Froch and Arthur Abraham will be trading leather at the Hartwall Areena in Helsinki, Finland.   The match-up has all the ingredients for a classic, and it would be no surprise if the super-middleweight showdown turns into the type of scrap we'll be talking about years down the road.

Who do you like?  The rangy brawler from Nottingham, or the huge punching German?

Let's take a look around the net at some of the predictions for the 168lb clash...

Star-divide

The Boxing Bulletin - One More Round: Froch/Abraham, Marquez/Katsidis, Berto/Hernandez, Ward/Bika, Vaszquez/Dominguez & Hatton/Belge

Dave Oakes... It’s a hard fight to pick but I’ve got a feeling the heavy hands of Abraham will start taking their toll on Froch as the fight wears on. I can see Froch, buoyed from early successes, getting sloppy in his approach and allowing Abraham back into the fight in the middle rounds. I’m going for Abraham winning via a stoppage in the final three rounds.

Bad Left Hook Fight Preview: Carl Froch v. Arthur Abraham

Scott Christ... It's a really tough fight to pick. Some are very comfortable picking Abraham and his power, some feel Froch is an absolute stylistic nightmare for him. I'm not convinced about either. I've put myself in the position where I think Froch is the right guy to crumble Abraham's wall with those wide shots, but more often when I try to envision the fight in my mind this week, I'm seeing a tired Froch having not made enough headway in breaking down his opponent getting blasted with one of those big shots from a still-strong Abraham. It won't be a pretty fight, but it should be a pretty entertaining affair. Abraham TKO-11

The Cruelest Sport - Apocalyptica Now: Carl Froch-Arthur Abraham Preview

Carlos Acevedo... Perhaps the deciding factor in the fight will be the power Abraham brings into the ring with him. Hands down, chin up, and square on is no way to face a big puncher, and Froch will always only be one false move or two away from disaster. Abraham has scored five late round stoppages in his career—including three in the last round—and is dangerous for every second of every fight. Even Andre Dirrell seemed to be feeling the effects of his shots before the fatal DQ blow ended matters. The feeling here is that Froch will give Abraham too many opportunities to score with big shots, particularly straight rights.

Eventually, Abraham will tag Froch, with emphasis, and then Froch will have to show just how resilient he is in the ring. Perhaps not resilient enough. Abraham via late TKO in what should turn into a bloody war.

Safe Side of the Ropes - Punch-Out!! Carl Froch vs Arthur Abraham Preview & Prediction

Andrew Harrison... Despite this, I fancy we’re in for an entertaining scrap. Froch will attack Abraham from the off, looking to hurt him to the body and land with scything uppercuts through the middle of his guard. In a fight which could resemble the recent Nathan Cleverly-Karo Murat contest in Birmingham stylistically (a tough row which saw Cleverly wear down the Wegner trained fighter in 10 rounds), I have a hunch that the more compact and direct punching of Abraham will edge him home to a tight and contentious decision win.

The Queensbury Rules - Most Super Of The Six: Previews And Predictions For Carl Froch Vs. Arthur Abraham And Andre Ward Vs. Sakio Bika

Tim Starks... There are any variety of ways this one could go. Froch could move enough, and outwork Abraham enough when he has to exchange, to get a decision, especially since Abraham gives away the early rounds. Abraham could connect solidly enough to win enough rounds even when being outworked and if not get the decision, get the knockout. I'm going with Abraham by close majority decision.

The safest bet: Contact. And lots of it. These guys aren't going to hide from each other.

The Boxing Tribune - War in Helsinki: Froch and Abraham Battle for Supremacy

Paul Magno... (Inside Fights) I’ve been critical of Abraham’s "fight 10 seconds of each round" mentality, but he can’t fight like that in this one. Froch will press and force Abraham to engage because he’s big enough and strong enough to cause some serious damage if Abraham just puts up the earmuffs to negate any offense. Abraham opening up also means that his power will be more of a factor, especially against Froch, who is a very vulnerable defensive fighter. Forget the baloney about Froch working on his lateral movement and speed. Even if it’s true, he’ll go back to flat-out fighting as soon as things get heated. Froch is a tough SOB, but he’s going to get caught sooner or later and I see Abraham taking this via late stoppage.

FIGHTHYPE - MARQUEZ-KATSIDIS, FROCH-ABRAHAM, WARD-BIKA AND MORE

Joe DeMaria... I expect Froch to get buzzed early, but use his length to start banking middle rounds as he stays out of harm's way. Both men will be hurt at some point, but a late Abraham rally won't be enough as Froch wins a close decision in the area of 115-113.

Inside Fights - Arthur Abraham vs. Carl Froch Preview & Picks

Corey Willinger... Figuring out how the judges are going to look at a Froch fight is always difficult. They gave him a gift against Andre Dirrell in a fight he clearly lost but seemed too ready to deny him against Mikkel Kessler in a fight that could have gone either way. Of course, the hometown fighter got the nod in both of those bouts. This time, there is no hometown fighter. And on paper, it’s unlikely this one makes it to the final bell. Froch has shown a tremendous beard thus far, but I’m a big believer in Abraham’s power. And Froch is just too easy to hit. Out-boxed by the Briton’s underrated jab early in the bout, Abraham will battle back in the late rounds, turn it into a war, and eventually score a stoppage.

Trent Pusey... It will be interesting to see how each man responds to his first loss. It also becomes interesting to select a winner given no hometown advantage. I like Froch but I dont like his chances against Abraham. It concerns me that Abraham was all too willing to let Andre Dirrell take control of their bout, but Carl Froch is not Andre Dirrell. Abraham will enduce a brawl and I like Abraham’s chin better than Froch’s. I see a lot of punishment being doled out in this fight but I would put it at Abraham by decision, 116-112.

If Abraham went on the offensive with any consistency, he’d be the clear choice. But he only opens up in occasional spots, and I think Froch is capable of staying out of trouble during those moments. The rest of the time, he’ll be the one scoring points and keeping Abraham at a safe range. Froch also remains strong throughout, so I don’t think the late rounds are as much of a concern as many are predicting.

Of course one shot from Abraham in the right spot changes everything. But I think Froch will survive any scary moments and win a clear decision.
