Well… looking back on it I would have had 21 points in the first week, had I played. But it’s only fair to handicap myself haw haw haw.

How is the Haye fight under?

The over under was for 9.5 rounds. According to boxrec, the stoppage came with 2:01of the ninth elapsed, not with 2:01 remaining. Please confirm this as multiple sources seem to corroborate it.

For example: http://sports.yahoo.com/box/blog/box_experts/post/Haye-knocks-down-Ruiz-three-times-retains-WBA-t?urn=box,231940

That’s not how it works. 9.5 over/under means rounds completed. So Haye-Ruiz would be “over” halfway through the 10th round.

Since there were three minute rounds

9.5 rounds as the benchmark would mean 1:30 of the ninth round. Therefore, the stoppage occurring at 2:01 would mean that the fight went over that benchmark. That’s the way I see it.

If that’s not the case, please explain what i’m missing.

by cyke on Apr 5, 2010 11:33 AM EDT up reply actions

That’s not how over/under works. Think of it in terms of bells. At the end of the first round they ring the bell, meaning the first round is complete. Did they ever ring the ninth bell to complete the ninth round of Haye Ruiz? No, because the fight was stopped during the ninth. The scenario you are describing would only be true if the over/under you got was 8.5.

In other words

At stoppage time, Haye and Ruiz had completed more eight and a half rounds, but had not yet completed nine. I’m not sure how to explain it any better than that.

more *than* eight and a half rounds

9.5 rounds means 1:30 of the 10th round

9 completed rounds, plus the half round

Thanks

That makes sense. I read it as the halfway point of round nine, not as 9 rounds plus a half.

So what's the official word by TBB on this?

Under, because it doesn’t consider the time, isn’t it? That’s how casinos work too? Thanks.

You’re actually in 12th jrok…doing pretty well with that week handicap though ;)

Naw, I’m not counting ties. There are three tied for third and three tied for six (you, laksskal, and pbeckett100). That makes me and Violent Demise tied for #7.

But this is all academic, Brock. I will be alone in the #1 slot by week 7.
