Predictions & Discussion: Vazquez vs Marquez IV - Perez vs Mares
Showtime is bringing us two big fights tonight...
Leading off the double-header is a terrific bantamweight clash featuring Yohnny Perez and Abner Mares, followed by the fourth meeting between familiar rivals Israel Vazquez and Rafael Marquez.

It’s a tough call, but if one of these guys is going to show up more “shot” than the other, I think it’s more likely to be Izzy. Just too many miles.
At the weigh-in it looked like Marquez was pretty dried out. Cutting weight at 35 years old is really hard work, so who knows what he’ll have tomorrow?
Maybe the weight cut evens things out a bit. If it goes late, maybe Vazquez can turn up the heat. The problem is, he didn’t look great either. Not by a long shot.
I’ll take Marquez by a stoppage. He’s got the offensive skill to rip Vazquez’ face to shreds, and I think he’ll do just that.

Agreed. I thought Vazquez looked done in his comeback fight, and have trouble seeing him stand up to Marquez’ accuracy and power. Of course, we don’t know how much Marquez has left either… but I have a feeling it’s a little more.

I know neither guy appeared particularly sharp in his last fight, but I think Vazquez was in a little tougher. Though both guys have tremendous heart, Izzy has some Chico and Gatti in him. At three years younger — especially for guys who have the mileage these two do — I have to lean toward Vazquez. It will be even as the rest were, and Izzy is sure to bleed during his ring walk, but he’ll pull another one out tonight.
