Quick Flurries: Donaire/Montiel & Williams/Martinez

With news of a November showdown against Mexican slugger Fernando Montiel, the big-fight wait finally appears to be over for Nonito Donaire...

Ronnie Nathanielsz - PhilBoxing.com... Arum said the Donaire-Montiel title fight will be held in the US and that they would decide on a venue this week after meeting with the television people from Showtime on Tuesday.

This is one of the best fights to be made in the lower weight classes.  It's definitely a more intriguing contest than the rematch Donaire had been seeking with Vic Darchinyan.  Sure, Darchinyan talks a good game and is fun to watch, but Montiel brings more craft and arguably as much thunder to the table as the Aussie based southpaw.  With a win over Hozumi Hasegawa already under his belt - Montiel could very well be in line for Fighter of the Year honors should be get by Donaire.

Despite promoters Lou DiBella and Gary Shaw's apparent interest in a junior-middleweight clash between Sergio Martinez and Alfredo Angulo, HBO seems determined that Martinez rematch Paul Williams first...

Lem Satterfield - AOL FanHouse... Greenburg, nevertheless wants Williams-Martinez until further notice. "There has been a lot of speculation and energy [on the part of HBO] put toward the rematch of Williams and Martinez," said Greenburg. "So I think that we're going to stick with that until we hear that it can't be made and then move on from there. So really, it's premature to start talking about Martinez-Angulo."

It's hard to argue the Williams/Martinez rematch isn't the best fight to be made between 154 and 160, but a Martinez/Angulo match-up is a nice looking scrap. If both promoters are willing to do business, what's the problem? It seems a little odd that after all the poor match-ups HBO has fed their audience over the years, that they would be so insistent on giving the public the best possible fight on this occasion.
