Around SBN: Fighters React to Nick Diaz's Positive Drug Test

Around the Net: Shobox & FNF Edition

A couple of prospects face off tonight in the 10 round Shobox main-event with heavy handed youngster Chris Avalos (118) taking on Christopher Martin (120). Also in action on the telecast is cruiserweight prospect Lateef Kayode (198 1/2) against Alfredo Escalara Jr. (199) in an 8 rounder.

Friday Night Fights has a couple of 10 rounders on the schedule with 22 year old Prenice Brewer (139 1/2) taking on Patrick Lopez (140) and hard hitting Breidis Prescott (141) against journeyman Harrison Cuello (142).

Let's take a look at the pre-fight buzz from around the net..

Bad Left Hook - TV and Internet Fight Schedule - Weekend of August 6, 2010

Avalos vs. Martin has the potential to be a solid bout. Avalos is an exciting bantamweight prospect, although he's moving up to 122 for this fight. Martin is also an undefeated prospect who hasn't fought complete pushovers. Kayode is a big punching cruiserweight who will take on former Contender contestant Escalera in a step up in class.

The Queensbury Rules - Weekend Afterthoughts + The Rest Of The Week's Boxing Schedule, Featuring Juan Manuel Marquez Vs. Juan Diaz II Replay, Chris Avalos, Antonio Escalante And More

Friday Night Fights, Friday, ESPN2, Chicago. This card has been in heavy flux, and instead of getting a look at welterweight prospect James De La Rosa in the main event, we'll get more of lightweight Breidis Prescott, who's had quite his 15 minutes of fame. His opponent is Harrison Cuello, who recently upset Steve Forbes. You can't win every switcheroo, I guess. A meeting of junior welterweight prospects Prenice Brewer and Patrick Lopez in the supporting bout might be more appealing.

Max Boxing - 200 Pounds of Promise: "Power" Kayode’s on the Brink of Something Big

"I saw some of his fights on YouTube and a DVD from Steve," shared Kayode. "I want to keep my distance for this fight, so if he wants to box, I can box. But if he wants to fight, I can fight." Feder agreed with his client’s appraisal of the situation. "Lateef’s got a dangerous right. We’re looking for [Escalera’s] habits and what he favors. He likes to crowd, but that’ll be difficult for him with Lateef. He’s got a lot more experience and rounds than Lateef but we’ll be ready."

San Diego Boxing Examinir - Preview: Chris Avalos vs Chris Martin Fight, Friday on Show Box

At our get-together Martin stated he knows exactly why he got the call to face the hard hitting Avalos, "His people feel I’m a pure boxer with no pop. What they don't know is that I’ve been improving my power fight by fight to a point where I’m now both a boxer and a puncher. Still, I feel the fight may go eight rounds and then by the ninth or tenth round, I’m going to stop him."

Cleveland Boxing Examiner - Cleveland's own Prenice Brewer to fight on ESPN August 6

The 22 year-old Brewer is coming off a decision victory over Christopher Hernandez in March. Prenice is a lighting quick junior welterweight who has a very bright future ahead of him. He was one of the most talented and accomplished local boxers as an amateur, and has carried that success over to the pro level.
