Time to Walk Away For Shane Mosley

Whether Shane Mosley deserved to leave the ring with a win last night after twelve tedious rounds against Sergio Mora is up for debate. It was a tough fight to score, with neither fighter landing effectively in the majority of rounds though Mosley certainly did press the action in every frame.

What isn’t up for debate is what Mosley needs to do right now. Retire.

There should be no other options for the veteran junior-middleweight.

Mosley will have options though and the repercussions can only be negative if he chooses to keep battling on.  There will be fighters calling him out.  Fighters he would have once battered.  But now his timing is no longer there and his speed is starting to fade as well.  Likewise for his stamina.  He is far from the dynamic boxer-puncher that captivated our attention for over a decade.  One punch at time and hold.  That's all he's got now and it's not enough.

Star-divide

Some might argue that there are still fighters Mosley can beat. Slow come forward types that will readily engage. That might be the case, but at what cost?

This is a sport that takes a heavy toll and leaves lasting damages. Why should a fighter with nothing left to prove subject his body – and more importantly, his mind - to the kind of punishment that can only cost him dearly in later life?  It's no longer worth it.

The man has done enough. He's going to the Hall of Fame. He's given fans plenty of great memories in a fantastic career.

The time has come for Shane Mosley to walk away.  He's earned a happy retirement, and let's hope it starts right now.

I completely agree. I didn’t bother scoring the fight, but I was paying enough attention to see that Mosley doesn’t have it anymore.

Second that.

I don’t see what the commotion is over this decision. For all of Mora’s running and holding, he was the more effective of the two on the inside. From round six on, Mora was landing uppercuts and one-twos whenever he bothered to throw. Mosley, meanwhile, was limited to his typical pitter-pat combos; however, where as in the past those pitter pat shots were used to set up an overhand right or hook to the body, tonight the definitive blow at the end of each sequence was absent.

Man i feel bad, a friend of mine got a big bet on Mora, he even told me to bet on him if i wanted to make some cash, but i learned not to bet against mosley years ago
he was so close
if i was him i would be so pissed
imo it was a robbery, mosley got the draw because of his name
change the faces of the fighters with mosley being a generic aggresive mexican and u would have seen a shutout decision

Is there a rendition of The Scorecard Treatment coming up? I’m interested to see how you had it.

Yeah, don’t think I’ll have time today though. Probably have it up tomorrow or Tuesday.
