British Scene Weekend Recap: Full Upton Park Undercard Report
Dave Oakes recaps all the action from this past Saturday's Upton Park undercard featuring Derek Chisora's British heavyweight title win over Danny Williams. James DeGale, Frankie Gavin, Billy Joe Saunders, Liam Walsh, Ryan Walsh, Ricky Burns, Craig Evans and Matthew Hall were all on the card.
Danny Williams’ career came to a quick end on the undercard after he was demolished inside two rounds by a fired up Derek Chisora in a bout for the British heavyweight title.
Chisora controlled the first round by out-speeding an atrocious looking Williams. Williams said in the build up to the fight that he was a shot fighter and he proved himself correct as he came in overweight and looked to have no balance, timing, speed or punch resistance.
Katsidis Bursts Mitchell's Bubble
Dave Oakes recaps Saturday's lightweight clash between Michael Katsidis and Kevin Mitchell.
Michael Katsidis retained his interim world title on Saturday night after stopping Kevin Mitchell in the third round. Mitchell, the hometown hero, never looked comfortable with Katsidis’ aggressive style and was stopped on his feet in front of an impressive 20,000+ crowd.
The crowd were thunderously loud during the ring walks, cheering Mitchell and booing Katsidis, they were quickly silenced though as Katsidis started to back Mitchell up in the first round.

Danny Williams’ last hurrah is the highlight of a packed undercard from Upton Park. He defends his British heavyweight belt against Derek Chisora in what will be the final fight of a remarkable career.
Williams, 41-8 (31KO’s), has had a rollercoaster career, he’s won British and Commonwealth titles and fell short at world level against Vitali Klitschko, but he’s best known for knocking out Mike Tyson.
It would take me most of the week to write about all of the things that have happened to Williams in his career - thankfully his story is well known enough for me to skip recapping it all and concentrate solely on what will happen when he meets Chisora.
Kevin Mitchell vs Michael Katsidis Preview
Dave Oakes previews Saturday's Sky Sports lightweight battle between Kevin Mitchell and Michael Katsidis.
Eighteen months ago Kevin Mitchell’s career looked like it was coming to a premature end. He’d been out of the ring for over six months due to a persistent hand injury and was considering retirement. He’d also resorted to working nights on the railway lines just to pay his bills. It was a desperate situation for a boxer who turned professional in a blaze of publicity and was steadily laying the foundations of a seemingly impressive future.
Thankfully for Mitchell, and his British fans, he slowly recuperated from his injury and has fought his way to a world title shot, albeit the interim title. He takes on Aussie war machine Michael Katsidis at Upton Park this Saturday in what looks to be a mouth-watering clash of styles.
