Andrew Fruman recaps last night's thrilling middleweight clash between Paul Williams and Sergio Martinez.

What a fight!

Paul Williams and Sergio Martinez put on a show last night at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City.

Over 12 wild rounds, the gutsy middleweights traded leather violently, with a bloodied Williams walking away with a majority decision victory. 

As expected, Williams came out aggressively, going on the attack with his high volume pressure style.  It paid immediate dividends, as the lanky Georgia fighter scored a knockdown with a glancing left hand to the temple only a minute into the contest.

Lee Payton previews Saturday night's HBO double-header featuring Paul Williams vs Sergio Martinez and Chris Arreola vs Brian Minto.

Paul Williams vs Sergio Martinez is not big business.  The fight wasn't on anyone's must-see list and Boardwalk Hall can't be expecting anywhere close to a sellout.

However, I think this fight will deliver.

Williams is one of the most impressive fighters to enter the world scene in the last few years. Victories over seasoned opponents like Antonio Margarito, Carlos Quintana, Verno Phillips and Winky Wright have revealed a born fighter with limitless energy and extraordinary physical dimensions. He's a fighter who tends not to make the most of every God-given inch to stay out of harm's way. On the contrary. It's often been said that Williams is too willing to mix it up.
