British Scene Weekend Recap: Groves & Olusegan Win, Moore Stopped by Khomitski
Dave Oakes recaps this past Saturday's Sky Box Office under-card. Check here for the recap of the main-event between David Haye and John Ruiz.
George Groves put in an impressive performance to take the Commonwealth super-middleweight title in just his ninth fight of his pro career. He out-boxed and stopped Ghana’s Charles Adamu in the sixth round.
Groves made a fast start, dropping the usually durable Adamu in the first round. The champion had come out swinging wildly and was punished by the hard hitting Londoner, who landed a right hook that clipped the off balance Adamu behind the ear and sent him to the canvas. Adamu wasn’t badly hurt and got to his feet almost immediately.

Undercard Recap: Groves & Olusegan Win, Moore Stopped by Khomitski
David Haye hammered his way to a multiple knockdown ninth round stoppage of John Ruiz in an entertaining heavyweight clash at the M.E.N on Saturday night.
Haye had won the title by pot-shotting and outmanoeuvring Nikolai Valuev, here he showed his destructive punching and an aggressive mentality that will send a message to the Klitschko’s.

Preview of the main-event: David Haye vs John Ruiz
George Groves takes a big step up in class on the M.E.N undercard; he challenges Charles Adamu for the Ghanaian’s Commonwealth belt.
Adamu, 17-4 (12KO’s), won the title last time out when he received a highly debatable split decision over Carl Dilks. Dilks seemed to have done more than enough to take the decision but the judges were swayed by Adamu’s swarming style.
The four defeats on Adamu’s have come against good opposition, Vitali Tsypko, Carl Froch, Otis Grant and Isaac Chilemba. He caused all four problems and was giving Carl Froch a very hard night before a strong finish by the current world champion gave him the victory.
David Haye vs John Ruiz Preview
Dave Oakes previews Saturday's heavyweight clash between David Haye and John Ruiz.
David Haye makes the first defence of his WBA heavyweight title this Saturday night when he takes on the much maligned John Ruiz at the M.E.N Arena, Manchester, England. It will be the first heavyweight title fight to take place in Britain since Lennox Lewis’ two round slaughter of Francois Botha nearly ten years ago.
Haye returns to the ring five months after defeating the Ukrainian giant Nikolay Valuev in Nuremberg. Haye showed he could box and move in that fight but Ruiz will provide a very different challenge to the Brit. The lumbering Valuev struggled to land a punch of note and wasn’t able to cope with Haye’s speed. Ruiz, whilst not being a particularly skilful boxer, will get close enough to Haye to make him work.
