The Boxing Bulletin's Updated P4P List

Time for a P4P update.  These sort of lists are not to be taken too seriously of course, but it's always a bit of fun to rank the best in the world.  It's been over three months since we posted our previous rankings, and plenty has happened since then.

Our criteria:

1. Current level of ability

2. Accomplishments over the last 3 years

Let's get to the rankings...

The Boxing Bulletin's Updated Pound 4 Pound List

Manny Pacquiao remains at the top of our rankings/ Photo © Ray Kasprowicz

Though the boxing world hasn't been all that busy since our last P4P list was posted (May 8), there has been enough activity to warrant an update to our top 25 list.

We've also added a couple new writers since then - Corey Erdman & Anthony Wilson - that are voting for the first time.

Our Criteria:

1. Current level of ability

2. Accomplishments over the last 3 years

Let's get to the rankings...

British Scene: Top 15 P4P

David Haye / Photo © Marty Rosengarten / Ringsidephotos.com

Dave Oakes updates The Boxing Bulletin's British Scene P4P list.  Make sure to check back tomorrow for our overall top 25 P4P list.

Let's get to the rankings...

1. David Haye

Haye has being resting and enjoying family life after becoming a father for the first time earlier this summer. November looks the most likely month for his return to the ring - unfortunately it’ll probably be against Audley Harrison.

2. Carl Froch

The Nottingham man faces Arthur Abraham on October 2 in another fantastic match-up. He lost his unbeaten record last time out, when Mikkel Kessler out-pointed him, but remains ahead of Amir Khan due to him facing far superior opposition than that of the Bolton light-welter.

Dave Oakes updates The Boxing Bulletin's British Scene P4P list.

Well, it’s been over six months since our last British Scene P4P list and a lot has happened in that short period of time.

Three of our top 15 have retired – Jamie Moore, Clinton Woods and Bernard Dunne, David Haye won and defended the WBA heavyweight title, whilst the likes of Ryan Rhodes, Matthew Macklin, Nathan Cleverly and Paul McCloskey have moved up in the rankings after claiming European honours.

Let's get to the ratings...

The Boxing Bulletin P4P Top 25

Not surprisingly, Manny Pacquiao remains at #1 on our Top 25 P4P list / Photo © Marty Rosengarten / Ringsidephotos.com

By Lee Payton

Over 3 months have past since we did our last P4P update, and plenty has happened since then.  As mentioned last time, our criteria is a little different from most P4P lists, as we consider where a fighter is right now in terms of ability to be as important as their past accomplishments.

Our criteria:

1.Current level of ability

2.Accomplishments over the past 3 years.

The rankings are based on a combined voting effort by The Boxing Bulletin writers, and not just my opinion, and you'll notice I don't agree with the consensus on a few occasions.  I'm sure you won't either as these lists are made for arguing, so feel free to disagree in the comments.

Let's get to it...

Photo © Ray Kasprowicz - Still at #1, Manny Pacquiao solidified his spot by blasting through Miguel Cotto last month.

As we mentioned at the start of the countdown, these lists are just for fun.  We certainly don't take the rankings too seriously, but enjoy debating where each fighter deserves to be ranked, so please feel free to participate and offer up your opinions of our rankings, or even your own P4P lists.

For previous instalments, check out the following links... 25-21, 20-16, 15-11 and 10-6.

The Boxing Bulletin Pound 4 Pound Top 25 List: 10-6

Photo © Ray Kasprowicz - Paul Williams comes in at #8.

We're down to the top 10 on our year end top 25 P4P countdown.

For numbers 25-11, check out the following links: 25-21, 20-16 and 15-11.

#10 Lucian Bute

Record 2007-2009: 7-0 (4 KO)

Previous Result: KO4 over Librado Andrade

Up next: TBA

Take that Super-Six!  Having been passed for Showtime's 168 pound tournament, Lucian Bute sent a powerful message to the world's best super-middleweights, with a crushing 4th round knockout of the previously indestructible Librado Andrade. Bute might not be part of the tournament, but until the eventual winner faces the Montreal based southpaw, he'll have a hard time convincing anyone he's the division's true #1.

HBO is reported to be interested in bringing Bute back in April, but with most of the division's top talent wrapped up in the tournament, there aren't too many options in terms of strong opponents at 168.  Names like Bernard Hopkins and Kelly Pavlik have been mentioned, but perhaps the winner of next month's bout between Robert Stieglitz and Edison Miranda is more realistic.
